“2007 TMBRA Championship Series Sizzles”

The 2007 Texas Mountain Bike Race Association (TMBRA) Championship Series concluded on Sunday, May 20th. There were four Big Pigs in the running for Top 10 Overall finishes. For three of the four racers, the finishing position in the final race at El Dorado held overall placement implications. The weather and trail conditions were perfect for a west Texas race.

When all the dust had finally settled:

The Results from El Dorado1
• Matt Kocian, 4th place SM1929
• Inna ”seamonster” Innes, 4th place, SW1929
• Rich “big pig” Szecsy, 6th place, SSOPEN
• Brian “porkchop” Brennfroerder, 7th place SSOPEN

Overall TMBRA Results after 8 races1
• Inna ”seamonster” Innes, 2nd place, SW1929
• Rich “big pig” Szecsy, 4th place, SSOPEN
• Matt Kocian, 4th place SM1929
• Brian “porkchop” Brennfroerder, 7th place SSOPEN

To be eligible as a Top 10 finisher, every racer had to complete a minimum of 5 races, and could use the scores from at least 6 racers to tally for their final score. The Series is not only a result of skills and fitness, but of enduring 6 or more weekends away from home and family over a 12-week period. As a consequence of doing so well this year both Matt Kocian and Inna Innes will be catting up next season and racing in the Expert divisions. This should allow us to make some room in the Sport division categories next year. Over the series Big Pig Racing had 8 team members racing in the Spring series. For a small team, Big Pig Racing had 50% of its team finish in the Top Ten for the 2007 TMBRA Championship Series. Not too shabby.

Upcoming Events and News
While the TMBRA Spring Series is now over, there are still lots of races and events on the horizon. On Saturday, June 23rd, DORBA will host the Judgment Day event where we ride over 100 miles of DFW trails in a single day, a very grueling event, especially given the temperatures in late June. On July 15th is the 6 hr Smurfboy race at Bar H. And starting in September is the DORBA race series, intermixed with the TMBRA Fall Series. At the end of October is the 24 Hrs of Rocky Hill, and starting in November is the 4hr DORBA series.
