Sandie, Saul, and Mount RainierThought I’d start reporting stuff from the Pacific Northwest…a la Pork Report style! Who wouldn’t write about the cool shit up here, right? :D And whatever happened to the Pork Reports?

Some background…

This story starts with Sandie getting a job at Boeing (as a geeky engineer) in Seattle during the summer of 2011. She left Raytheon in 2010, got another job in Dallas, became a ‘woman of leisure’, and finally got an offer from Boeing in a location that we thought would be cool to move to. We’d been together for a few years and were living together in sin, so we discussed it and then jumped at the opportunity.

The TNX Cyclocross Season started strong in Texas, and the Big Pigs are Racing!  Some came for a taste, some came for a race, but all of us came to win! And after 6 hard races, we did just that!

CHAOS – CX CAT 4 SERIES WIN!

It was late September, and the Crit Season has closed. Most of the Big Pigs have been Gravel Grinding on Cross Bikes, and need some racing.  The local Fall XC Series was targeting the entry level trails, that did not appeal to me.  Bryan Fawley and Dallas Bike Works are promoting the biggest and best series in Texas, including 3 separate festivals around Texas.   The TNX Cyclocross 6 week series was drawing racers from Austin, Waco, Fort Worth, Dallas and Denton.  400 mile radius, for a Tuesday Night Race, speaks for the course, the venue and the crowd!  IN IN IN

When St Louis and Springfield Missouri invite you to there Epic Mountain Bike race, the BTEpic, you go, and you invite all of your best friends! Thanks to Mia Phillips for the invite!!!

The World Series 2011 is on and the battle is  St Louis vs Dallas. I pull in from Dallas Thursday Night into Steelville MO, and watch game 2 from a Redneck bar 90 miles outside of the city, in enemy territory, Texas takes it in the 9th, I really love the people in America, I had a blast!!  Awesome!  I head down to the Bass River Resort, and check in with Scott Davis, Ryan, Jeremy, & Steven – the Race Director and Rockstar Crew!  Get the skinny on the proper pre-ride, Leg 1, minus the Fireroad climb in.  Perfect. Arkansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Illinois are all checked in or enroute!

So, when I heard that the 24 Hr Solo World Championships were going to be back in North America in 2012, I wanted to go back, and to do that I needed to race a qualifyling event, and the 24 Hours of Rocky Hill is indeed a qualifier.  To qualify you have to finish in the Top 10 of the category you want to compete in.  Since SS does not have a direct category, you have to complete in the Solo OPEN/PRO category.

Tnx kick off

I wanted to do these last year and broke my ribs right before they started. So, kicked it off this year. Great showing by the Big Pigs for the season opener for cx as you can see from Chaos blog prior. I did the first race Ss and as they rang the bell for the final two laps I broke a spoke and it knocked the wheel out of true two bad to roll. So, dnf’d the first race. As chaos came by me yelling ” run the rest of it”, I did not and now wish I would have, in order to hold up the motto of COMMIT TO THE RIDE. The second race I pulled out the gravel ready cx bike which is a fisher presidio, not a salsa, although I wish it was. I finished this race but not before being lapped by chaos at the end. I should have pushed harder. This is something that I think I am immediately addicted to and will be back out there next Tuesday for some more torture. great to have a good slew of pigs out there racing and cheering.

Big Pigs came with style and grace!

Mr Clean started on a Single Speed, for the Short Track, but quickly ran it out to swap for his new Salsa CX.  Dana rolled out with a Brand New Specialized Crux, for hist first race! Dana refused to be lapped by Chaos, and finished the race strong.  Carl, who setup his own CX Course at his pad to master the Barrier Dance, was looking great doing it!!  Chaos sporting the TuTu and a SingleSpeed took it to the Podium for a 3rd Place overall, Cat 3/4 with field of 40+

Sit back and let me tell you a story of commitment, family, friends, moonshine and love.

Gravel Worlds 2011 hosted by PCL – Pirate Cycling League, from Lincoln NE. “The Good Life…

It all began after the devastating DNF ( it hurts to even type those letters), at the 200Mile Dirty Kanza, when Aaron Gammel, a PCL Champion Racer pinged me on Facebook, and asked if I was coming.   YEAH MAN! I wouldn’t miss it for the world!

I created a website for me and Sandie to document our adventures. I figured I’d start by documenting my road trip to Seattle. First stop was in Gunnison, Colorado for the 24 Hours in the Sage mountain bike race. I’m ashamed to say that I did not commit to this ride :-(

You can read more about it here:

It all began for with this little race called the Dirty Kanza 200.  Mr Clean, Brad Green and I (including our good friends from Soul Craft Cycles, Bicycles Outback, The Bicycle Path, Bicycles Plus and Plano Cycles) started training for this 200 miles of gravel race in Kansas.  We were throwing down back to back 80 – 100′s, weekly.

Another Palo Duro Race Report – 24 Hours in the Canyon

Mike Frazier (Pigsley) and I did the 24 Hours in the Canyon at Palo Duro this past weekend (6/4/2011 – 6/5/2011). They had multiple races going on over the weekend – 24 and 12 hour, road and mountain bike courses, competitive and non-competitive, and multiple kids races. They advertise this event as the only one in the country running road and mountain bike simultaneously. I believe they said they had over 400 participants, which is a pretty good turnout, especially at this time of year out there (F’in hot).
